CENIT approves the funding to the project of R&D Genius Pharma

The partnership of pharmaceutical and biotechnological companies Genius Pharma will receive for its project of R&D a subvention of 17.1 million euros of the Program of National Strategic Partnerships (CENIT) of the Ministry of Industry Tourism and Commerce. Almirall-Prodesfarma, Esteve, Uriach, Crystax, Enantia and Galchimia have formed the partnership Genius Pharma for the development and the consolidation in Spain of key technologies in the innovating medicine discovery. This project, of four years of duration, has a budget of 36.8 million euros, the subvention of the program CENIT will suppose the financing of near 50% of the investment. Crystax participates in Genius Pharma with a 10% of the overall budget, up to a sum of 4.3 M euros.
The support of the program CENIT to the project of Genius Pharma constitutes a clear example of cooperation between the public sector and the companies in the development of R&D in the pharmaceutical area in Spain. In this sense, one of the main objectives of Genius Pharma is to offer to the Spanish pharmaceutical sector know-how necessary for the activities of I D in the field of the preclinical investigation. This project will involve so much to companies of technological base like a universities and centers investigation public.
Genius Pharma will impel nine technologies in different public centers from investigation for its use on the part of the pharmaceutical companies. These technologies are key in the process of investigation of new drugs: from the discovery of therapeutic targets to the identification of candidates to preclinical development.
The support of the program CENIT to the partnership Genius Pharma supposes a recognition to the paper of the pharmaceutical companies in the land of the investigation. This collaboration responds to the objective of the Government to reach in the 2010 2% of investment of the GIP in R&D with 55% of contribution on the part of the private sector. These objectives raised in the program Ingenio 2010 try to reach in next the five years the European level of R&D.
